resetting steering angle sensor

Post by Monkeydonkeyratmagic » Wed Feb 07, 2018 7:48 pm

Evening all.

Just a quickie.

How is this done. I read some vague article about this that mentioned you turn the wheel one way and then the other etc etc.

Is there a confirmed process for this? Have a new one going in this weekend.

Thanks.

resetting steering angle sensor

You need diagnostic access, and by that I mean a "proper" piece of kit. Carly or an EBD dongle won't work. The BMW kit from bmcables will do it, or a Launch/SnapOn machine. Simple procedure once connected, BUT they do fail. There are two potentiometers inside at opposing sides, and it calculates the steering position from the resistances. I had one few weeks back that calibrated fine, even though it had triggered a fault. However, it triggered again shortly after. I believe you CAN fit a used one, but think it needs coding before calibration, again same kit required.
