I recon its this. Mine smokes occasionally, due to a tiny leak in the rocker cover. Not enough to drip and leave marks on the floor. No noticeable loss of oil either.Silverzedtom wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2017 7:10 pm First place to check has to be the rocker gasket. Plenty on here about the issue of you aren’t familiar.

Ran the car today and its coming from the rear of engine there are signs of small deposits of oil on the engine near the heatshield. I will start with rocker cover gasket and go from there. Engine didnt even have time to get up to temperature before the smoke started.

I would clean the engine & see where it’s leaking before randomly replacing gasketsDaveZ4richardson wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2017 5:07 pmRan the car today and its coming from the rear of engine there are signs of small deposits of oil on the engine near the heatshield. Is it an easier enough task for a novice to carry out?

Not done my one yet, but others have said to make sure you remove all the old gasket. It goes rather crumbly, so make sure you retrieve all the bits.

yep. did mine and I would class myself as an utter, utter noviceDaveZ4richardson wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2017 6:09 pmIs it an easier enough task for a novice to carry out?
i had a sneaking feeling it would be ur cam cover gasket but you indicated you couldnt smell burning oil. you didnt sniff hard enough u muppet!
easy fix but make sure you get a decent gasket, comes in 3 parts and i used some aircraft grade gasket sealer on the corners and half-moons just to be doubly sure of a good seal.
when loosening/tightening bolts make sure you do it via a pattern. from the inside outwards is advisable.
the bolts have a dead-stop so you can't over-tighten.
when removing the old gasket make sure bits of gasket dont drop into the engine.
If you hear a crack or two on removing the cam cover it's just the old baked-on gasket breaking up as it's prob become v stiff and brittle over time.
take ur time, go slow. don't miss anything and u should be fine.
I have an epic thread on here somewhere detailing myu own fix with pics but you will have to troll through them urself as I've been at the limoncello and i'm on hors d'heurve duty before new years craic guests arrive! lol
here's a ikkle vid in tyhe meantime. oh yeah, if there's still smoke after the replacement it's just excess/collected oil burning off...
good luck

Be careful with the bolts, they certainly can be over tightened & will have a torque setting

the cover bolts meet a stop rob.
you will feel the stop before you have a chance to over-torque.
crucial thing here is to pattern-torque and i was nicely surprised that all the bolts met the stop within about half a turn of each other
