Occasional coolant light !
I’ve had the coolant warning light cone on twice now .. but only on starting the car having not used it for a couple of weeks
If I turn the car off .. the turn it back on the light does not come back on
I’ve checked the levels etc and can’t see any problems
Any thoughts ?

First thing - does the float all look OK and move freely when you remove the cap?
If you are 100% sure you are not losing coolant then you have to assume a sensor problem - this sits on the bottom of the expansion tank, you can see it clearly with the undertray off.
Personally I would add some coolant right up to the max level and see how you go. Any coolant loss is almost certainly a hairline crack in your expansion tank.

Or, perished O rings where the expansion tank fits to the rad, this was my problem..

My coolant light just came on for the first time. Coolant was low, so I added. Will check it in a couple of days to see if I have a leak.

As I say it only happens when the car has been left for over a week without being used

It's normally pretty simple - if the coolant is low it's either a crack in the expansion tank or perished o-rings where the expansion tank fits to the rad. If coolant level is fine but you have a light on it's usually the sensor (fitted to bottom of expansion tank).

I know this is an old thread but thanks for the information. Now I need to by the sensor and replace it or get my mechanic to do it.ph001 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 3:35 pm It's normally pretty simple - if the coolant is low it's either a crack in the expansion tank or perished o-rings where the expansion tank fits to the rad.
