HELPNEEDED - Poltergeists in Z4M gauges?

Post by mmm-five » Tue Oct 23, 2018 3:54 pm

Anyone see a similar problem to this...

1) just replaced both post-cat O2 sensors after my off road National meet sojourn, and am about to reset the EML light, but get no power to OBD port (might simpy be a fuse, so checking that out).

2) however, also noticed that the gauges go through their normal self-test on ignition, and settle to normal positions after a second, BUT when I turn off the ignition, they don’t drop back down to the resting position..they stay where they are (I.e. showing 800rpm, 80°c oil temp, full petrol, etc.)

3) clock has reset, as have all the historic trip readings/speed alert/etc.

HELP!

Does it blow as soon as you put a fuse in or as soon as it gets power if ignition fed fuse or is it ok for a while then blows

I'm getting this info 2nd hand from the guy who's working on it - and he's now finished for the night as they've got a local power outage until 9:30pm - but it sounded like it blows almost immediately that he turns the ignition on.

There were 2 aftermarket devices (dash cam & DAB) that we thought might be causing it, but they've both been removed and it's not solved it.

In the morning he's going to see if there's any cabling issue on the back of the OBD socket.

In case your Gauges are the problem, I may offer you my "old" UK-RHD-Z4M-Gauges.
I replaced them with some LHD-Km/h-Z4M-Gauges.

But I hope you might get it fixed without replacing your gauges

Thanks for suggestion & offers!

Found the culprit was dodgy wiring behind the OBD2 port...obviously made to a price/standard to withstand an annual diagnostic check, but not for running around on track with a dongle connected.

New O2 sensors, PAS pipes and valve clearances done ready for my Ring trip on Saturday
