Rough Idle 2.5 engine (2004)

Post by Moffat5310 » Sat Sep 22, 2018 8:56 am

Well folks, got all my oil leaks sorted and the engine is as dry as the Sahara. Rocker cover, oil filter housing, sump and crank case.

I’ve found the car pulling really smoothly but as soon as a stop I have a very rough idle. It’s strange as the car drives so well.

The idle is quite distinct. Anyone had anything similar?

Have you checked the air intake pipes?

Its the pipes that go from the air filter box into the engine . Check them all out as prone to develop cracks. A crack can be difficult to see so you may need to remove it to inspect. Not a difficult job.

It’s this pipe that commonly splits, usually the small bifurcated bit

Spot on gents. Changed the plugs and stripped the box and pipes out. The wee side bit had a previous repair with glue and tape so have botched it again and will order on Monday.

Thanks for the help.
