Hi

I have had the engine warning light come on as amber (Not EML) I have run DIS/GT1 and it has shown error codes!

DME-CA DME: Fuel trim bank 1 control limit - Mixture too lean (P0171 or P2177)
DME-CA DME: Fuel trim bank 2 control limit - Mixture too lean (P0174 or P2179)
DME-E4 DME: Fuel trim bank 2, permissible range exceeded - Mixture too lean (P0174)
DME-E4 DME: Fuel trim bank 1, permissible range exceeded - Mixture too lean (P0171)

Any suggestions as to the cause, where do I go from here?

Hi,

With both banks throwing up lean error codes first place to look would be for an air leak on the inlet (Also look at the crank case vent and oil filler cap), after that, possibly a faulty MAF.

Good luck!

Hi stupot , when I had mine come on it had a split hose. An easy fix for the independent to sort. Best of luck.

Hi Nothing obvious on a quick check, have cleared the code so light now off. I will investigate further if it returns

Thanks

Well it was for the engine light on on my wifes car E46 with the M54 engine. Turned out to be the O2 sensor, bank 1 before cat as diagnosed by Torque Speed in Blackpole Worceseter (Phil Cutts) and they fitted a new sensor for £130 inc VAT, dealer quoted £220 plus diagnostics, so a good result.

Maybe not so good, the light came back...and went again....and came back then while sorting a small oil drip local mechanic (use him for oil and filter changes, pads disks etc) spotted the vent hose on the CRANKCASE-VENTILATION/OIL SEPARATOR system attached to the head, no. 4 in the diagram below was perished and dripping oil, replaced it and all OK so far.
