To be fair, you've got it the wrong way round mate, but yeah, that would be very poor form. It will always fire the airbags - the risk is having an accident with only the driver in the car and the airbags doplying for a passenger that isn't there - damaging the dash and the passenger door.
I do hope that is the case.

But surely an occupancy sensor bypass will either signal that:

The passenger seat is never occupied, even with someone there... So the passenger airbag will never deploy, and there is no seat belt warning light/chime

or

The passenger seat is always occupied, even with no one there....So the passenger airbag is always deployed, and the seat belt warning light/chime will always be on unless the seat belt is plugged in.

If yours is the second one, then you will constantly have to have the seatbelt fastened on an empty seat is that the case?...

Also If it did deploy with no passenger present, and the assessor found a bypass fitted, then the insurance may not pay out at all..if you hadn't notified them.

could you use the electric base off standard seats and retro fit to non electric m-sport seats like yours? i wonder if bmw just change the top part and kept the base as a cost saving exercise.

Jonny, did you get an answer to this?

I have non M heated / electric seats in my Z - although I managed to pickup M seats that are non heated, non electric

So could I swap the electrics components and heat pads from my current standard seats into the M seats?

Z4 3.0 / Mods done... too many to mention

Enjoyed reading this post
I’m spending time reading ‘retro fits” so as to improve my own car
It all seems very “Janet and John” simple that even can accomplish
Thankyou for this guide
Now off to see if I can get some “warm seats”
BMW E36 Compact “Dakar Yellow” (sold to make way for Z4 Coupe)
BMW E36 M3 Evo Vert (sold due to hit & run)
BMW E36 M3 Evo Vert (stolen written off)
BMW E36 M3 Evo Saloon (sold to buy Vert)
BMW E36 318is Coupe (sold to buy M3)
