Removing Hand Brake and Cover
Hi,
Just looking to replace the hand brake handle which i know just pulls off
Has anyone took the cover assemble or Gaitor Assembly off as they suggest having it inside out and tie wrapping it onto the inner shaft before pulling it the right way around and fitting in position before putting the new Handbrake handle on.
Thanks
PaulN

And that is not me in the picture - I would never wear white trousers when working on a car but I guess I was doing the dirty work ...

Re: Removing Hand Brake and Cover
Cheers,
I wasn't going to mention the white slacks.....
Stupidly Only checked on the way to work this morning (didn't go in the Z) and mine seems to be all in one from the back of the handbrake right to the front of the gear stick????
I guess its a case of brute force and getting them off....
Thanks for the photos chap, really helps.
Cheers

Re: Removing Hand Brake and Cover
Hi,
Managed to have a good look at the handbrake last weekend, and got the trim off and found the tie wrap holding the gaitor on.
One thing was i really tried to get the handle off but it would shift.... Is it just like the gear knob, pull it till it flys off?
Cheers

Okay, I know I'm 2 years late to this thread's party,b ut I got my 05-reg Z4 2.0 a couple of weeks ago and am already modding, albeit modestly.PaulN wrote:Hi,

I ordered and received my Storm Motorwerks gear knob and hand brake cover. Gear knob successfully installed - and I didn't even give myself a black eye in the process! Pics to come.
However, I'm having trouble removing the old hand brake cover. Gaitor removed, tie-clip removed, pulled very hard, cover just won't budge. There appears to be some clipping going on with the plastic cover securing itself over a couple of protrusions in the metal shaft.
Any help, advice, sympathy gratefully recieved.
Cheers!

Re: Removing Hand Brake and Cover
So how does that happen?
You spend all day going back to the Z4 every hour or so to try and get the hand brake cover off, but to no avail - hence frustrated post above.
Then you go back the next day and, whoosh, it comes off first try.
Ambient temperature maybe?
Anyway, here's the result...

You could do that, but you could also use a small hammer. Pictures from a small how to I posted on the Dutch forum:

Re: Removing Hand Brake and Cover
Need to replace my handbrake handle and was wondering, in the post above, the cover with the silver trim, is that an OEM part?
If yes, does anyone know the part number?

Re: Removing Hand Brake and Cover
Can anyone tell me if you can remove the handle without removing the gaiter first ?
Does the zip tie for gaiter go round the end of the handle ?
Thanks
