back from Geneva, seen new Z4 in the flesh

Post by moodhead » Tue Mar 10, 2009 6:59 pm

Just arrived back today from the Geneva motorshow and finally saw the new Z4 close up. It's the weirdest thing but I wasn't that interested in it. I walked around it, looked at the lines and immediately thought that I prefer the look of mine from the outside. To me the current (old) Z4 looks sharper and the lines are better. The front looks ok / good but I wasn't all that taken with the back. Whilst there's nothing wrong with the back I think I prefer the way it is now. I would describe the back as 'baby 6 series' and not as distinctive as it is now. I can say with some confidence that it's pretty unlikely I will change mine for the new one when I'm looking to replace my Z4. Of course this is just my opinion and others may love it.

Apart from the Z4, I checked out the Ferrari California close up (love it), looked around Massa's F1 car, the race prepared Ferrari 599, the Aston Martin 77 (pretty awesome), the Alfa Romeo 8c (really beautiful), Bugatti Veyron (just amazing in the flesh), the new Rolls Royce 200EX being launched in 2010 and quite a few more tasty cars.

It was a really good trip and believe me, you'd never know we're in a global credit crunch. It was a Monday and the place was packed with people.

Interesting observations. I have yet to see the new Z4 in the flesh but from the pictures I have seen so far I get the exact opposite opinion of it. :o It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess.

Cheers.

So I've spent the whole last week 40 mins away from Geneva, reading all my car magazines about the show - never clicked to drive down to the show! Feel rather stupid.
2006 Z4MR - Black on black
2007 997S - Cobalt Blue
2007 130i LE - Carbon Black, Lemon Leather and lots of toys - GONE!
2006 3.0si Sport Roadster - Silver, black hood & black leather, MV2's, stubby & ZHP gear knob - GONE!

The real thing can be different from pictures. But I really like the new Z4. The interior is much better than the current model. I like the electro-mechanical parking brake. No more hand-brake turn. :D

The RHT is better than fabric roof, it is easier to clean and wash after attacked by bird-droppings (I just bought the BMW soft-top cleaner and water-proof stuff for the fabric roof).
Current BMW: 640d Gran Coupe M Sport (F06), 118d SE (F20).
Previous BMW: Z4 sDrive23i M Sport (E89), 318i Sport (F30), 120d SE (F20), Z4 2.5i Sport Roadster (E85), 523i Sport (E60), 323Ci (E46), 523i SE (E39), 318i (E36).
