Hi, do you keep an eye on the electronic dipstick so you know its getting low before the light comes on?
Ps, it doesn't have to be Castrol edge & I think most use 5/30

Hi, you could nip in to your BMW dealer and get a litre at the parts counter for around £14 which is all you need for topping up.

Cheaper than Castrol Edge at Halfords :o , and you know you'll get the correct spec.

I think it's the LL04 compliance that's important but it may be different for a 23i.........................

Just occasionally dealer prices can surprise us.

Either would be fine, just make sure it's fully or semi synthetic to match what's already in there-the grade you can mix as it will just give you a 5w35 etc etc

Have topped up my oil after the light came on, with the add 1 litre sign which I have put in. However a day or so later, when I scroll to chec the oil level, the little clock just goes round and round and doesnt register, any ideas?

You have to run for 15 minutes or so, to get the oil warm, before it gives a reading

https://applications.castrol.com/oilsel ... b/c/search

The engine oil level sensor does not give data updates (as it happens) it collects it, averages it and then updates the display about once every few minutes.
Last week I drove to my mates house to pick him up, parked waiting with the engine running on a fairly steep downhill section, nose of the car downwards. After 2 or 3 mins he came out, jumped in and I turned the car around to go up the hill.
When I reached the top my oil level warning light came on and the level display was flashing, all was not happy.
My mate went into panic mode, because I check the digital level every time I drive I know it does not lose or use any oil and lo and behold, a few moments later the oil level is ok and light resets.
