Where can I find the car's various software versions?

Post by MikeS » Sun Jul 18, 2010 9:59 am

I want to check what version of software/firmware my car has installed before it goes to the dealer next week for some minor problems which they may try to fix with 'software' updates so I can see what has changed. I though I had found the info before via the Idrive but I have just spent 30 mins looking and I have RTFM and still cannot find the info. Can anyone help?

Hi Mike
From what I remember you find it via satnav, go to sat push controller to the right, once or twice, then you see it, as well as sat version. Am i right in thinking you have the 2009 Z4? If so, can you control the phone via voice control? (unless of course you got the VC option!) I believe you can on 2010 models, even without the VC option. Just want to know if they update the software will it enable this option?

I am having my software updated in the next couple of weeks to cure the noisy lpfp. I was told it takes 1 to 5 hours depending on how much needs changing. I too have tried to find out what it has the moment - I can find the sat nav version which is 2008 - i've already asked why on a 2009 car but was told that was the most up to date at the time. If you find it let me know.

JohnT - Yes it is the 2009 with Idrive. I have the satnav version and it is 2008. I asked at the time why it was 2008 in a 2009 car but the reply was just that the 2008 version was the version available on build! I cannot find any other software version info which is a little frustrating as I really would like to know if they change anything.

If I knew what the LPFP noise was like and where it came from I would tell them that was a problem as well.................

Ask the same when picked up car, same answer. There is a new satnav version, 2010 I think, tried to get a free upgrade but no luck, costs about £130.
Ref the software i thought the ECE BMW 1.2.4 was it, purely a guess!!

JonhT - It would be good to know what is changed in the 2010 nav software to know if it was worth buying!

Low pressure fuel pump - in the tank behind your head, mine has started to make a really annoying whine again (changed once which cured it)- the noise is difficult to describe but if you had it you would know!
