Vibrating clutch pedal
Hello guys - first post here so be gentle with me!
I've had my Z4 for about a month now (sdrive 2.3) and for about the last week there has been noticable vibration felt on the clutch pedal. I've taken it in to the dealer who told me this is perfectly normal. My question is can any of you feel any vibrations through the clutch pedal? Is this normal and am I going mad!
Cheers......

If you feel vibraation from clutch pedal, I don't think it is normal. My car doesn't have the problem.

I don't have this problem either. I just love the way these service advisors at BMW dealerships constantly dismiss owners concerns and problems with this is normal or customary. It is getting ridiculouus. I think this 2nd generation is riddled with problems and that the quality of the Z4 was better (e85) when it was built in Spartanburg.

13,800 miles so far in mine and I've had a lot less wrong with my E89 than I did with my 3.0si Coupe Z4 and I didn't have much wrong with that!DAGSZ4 wrote: I think this 2nd generation is riddled with problems and that the quality of the Z4 was better (e85) when it was built in Spartanburg.
I think the build quality is a lot better than the 1st gen Z4 myself, especially the interior!
No clutch probs here either although mines the 35i so may be different.
3.0si Z4 Coupe then an sDrive 35i Z4. Great cars, now gone. Range Rover Evoque owner now!

Re: Vibrating clutch pedal
Thanks for the responses guys.
The vibration isn't much, you can just feel it if you rest your foot slightly on the clutch pedal. Plus sometimes when changing gear the last inch or so of the clutch travel feels kinda rough.
I'm going back tomorrow to have someone else try it. Will keep you posted.

I absolutely think that the interior quality is far better than in the E85's. I was more or less speaking of mechanical issues, etc.

Re: Vibrating clutch pedal
I've come to the conclusion that the vibration is coming from the gears not engaging properly. Was on my way to the dealer today and it decides to work perfectly fine so I didn't go, but the familiar grinding feeling was evident on the way home.
Will take it to the dealer tomorrow and see what they say.... No doubt they will tell me all s normal
This issue is really ruining the car for me, at the moment I hate driving it.

Yikes, that doesn't sound healthy if the gears aren't engaging properly. I have to say the gearbox on mine is incredibly crisp and every gear slots into place perfectly. Let us know how you get on.

Re: Vibrating clutch pedal
Ok, I've concluded that this is more noticable when the car is cold. I'm going to the dealer first thing in the morning to get them to do something about this as I'm fed up with the car at the moment - I've only had it a month
How should I approach them to get them to do something about this, bearing in mind it might not be immediately evident when they drive the car, but if they lived with it for a day they would surely notice the problem?

Re: Vibrating clutch pedal
They might want to keep it overnight so they can see it first thing in the morning when its cool and the temperatures are a bit lower. I guess by the time you drive it to them the gearbox oil will have warmed up? See if they will let you compare it against one of their Z4's. From what you describe, it sounds like something they should be able to fix though! Good luck.

Re: Vibrating clutch pedal
I have had the same issue with my E85 and E89. This issue disappears after some time.
I'm not sure, but the vibrating was gone around 12000km on the clock.

Re: Vibrating clutch pedal
Well it's going in to the dealer on Monday - they are going to strip it down and take a look at it. Not the best as the car is only 6 weeks old
The issue is only there when cold - as soon as it heats up (30 mins of driving) the clutch runs smoooth. Could it be something is clashing and when it gets hot (contracting) the clash goes away?!?!?

Yes, only when the car was 'cold'.RK1D wrote:The issue is only there when cold - as soon as it heats up (30 mins of driving) the clutch runs smoooth. Could it be something is clashing and when it gets hot (contracting) the clash goes away?!?!?
I don't know what this causes, it seems that it has to run-in some km's.
