Alexa autos on sale at Halfords

Looks like a bargain, anyone know if it uses a lot of data to listen to music via this?
Could be a good way to listen to DAB etc.

No more than streaming from Spotify I wouldn’t of thought.

It’s the earliest date you can collect it seems.
Maybe they’re getting numbers and then bulk buying from Amazon :-)
 
No thanks its bad enough that they listen to you now they want to know where you are.........

My mate Andy bought an Alexa, beautiful thing with a good sized screen, we put it to the test by sitting in the room and chatting about our shared hobbies of drones and kayaking while Andy refreshed his google browser. Sure enough after around 20 mins its full of ads for drones and kayaks!!!!!!
 
I was about to order one of these, but have just realised I have Google Assistant on my phone which can do everything Alexa can do.
 
Well spotted! I fitted one in my E85 recently, and at that price have just ordered another one as a spare.

Although you can indeed access Alexa via the app on your phone, the beauty of the Echo is that is has an array of 8 microphones using far-field voice recognition technology (see here for a technical explanation) for improved operation in noisy environments.

I've located mine between the speedo and rev counter at the top of the instrument binnacle (see this thread), and not only does Alexa recognise commands at up to 60mph with the top down, but I can also make intelligible hands-free phone calls. It's a very smart bit of technology!
 
Stuck it with a velcro pad behind the centre console armrest. Out of the way and works just fine via the aux input and cigarette lighter socket.

Good grief - what does everyone have to hide?!
I hope I don’t do anything in the car that I’d worry about anyone else listening to - and balanced against the extra functionality the box gives me I’d take the box.
Completely get that it’s individual choice though.
 
Is this a better option than everything else? I have the basic business radio and although I can make phone calls via bluetooth, it would be good to do other things.
 
Ordered yesterday, arrived this morning, great piece of tech ! I’d previously installed an echo dot but connectivity via personal hotspot on the iPhone proved problematic. Today I’ve enjoyed asking for music from Spotify, adding things to a shopping list and even turning on my hot water via Hive, very pleased :thumbsup:

Well if someone does something stupid on the road and you shout 'W**ker', at them, I'd make sure your better half can't then get access to your browser. :poke: :rofl:
