Remap insurance

Post by CymruNurse » Sat Aug 14, 2021 12:05 pm

Blimey! So I'm insured with Direct Line and have a fairly low cost as I am a bit older ;) ;)

I just rang for a quote as I am thinking of remapping my Z4 e89 2.0.

They won't insure it for any remap that gives over 20% increase in BHP apparently :( I was looking for a stage 3 as in the picture and they won't touch it. Ah well.

Try specialist insurers for this type of thing, run of the mill insurers really don't want this sort of modification.

LV love 'em! Same map (don't know why it's called a stage 3 TBH, most generic remaps are those figures), costs me an extra £0.00
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

£73 for a remap on a 23i which does not give much of a power increase - on a 4 pot I can see it making sense but not s N/A version. :headbang:

I can understand that. I am now wondering if my scenario may have a bearing on the zero increase; the car is under a multi-car policy (3) and my wife is down as main driver and the car is registered in her name. It's also on limited mileage (4k I think). Could be that women are less likely to 'make use' of the extra oomph as far as insurers are concerned. They also never asked how much of a power increase when I added it on :o

Maybe mate, to be honest they never asked me either as I bought direct from the comparison site so it was just a tick box exercise of remap with no questions regarding power, im definitely going to try adding it after next year see if it makes a difference.. Not convinced it will though as every insurer loaded a similar amount on the comparison sites. I might remap my daily soon so might give them a ring and see what they say about price increase on that

Thats the issue with comparison sites, no actual cmon sense is being applied, difference in a remap on a 23i with 20bhp added max against an 18i which could easily add 100bhp is night and day.

Insurance has always been a scam :headbang:

      Remap insurance

Just bought mine and the previous owner remapped from 181 to approx 245BHP. INCREDIBLE response times and 47mpg on recent motorway long journey.
Gocompare website allows you to fill in a modification section which includes 'Engine tuning/remapped' or the likes. Admiral were best and, when going through the purchase of the policy, they said they could reduce it if I did a multicar with them which I did. The addition of a 2nd car reduced the Z4 quote by £100!
The Z4 insurance company on the forum (Chris Knott?) were really nice on the phone but were £150 higher than Admiral.
