E89 V E85 Driving Position

Post by Nick2449 » Sat Jul 24, 2021 8:11 pm

Hi all,

My wife has decided she wants to be able to drive a second car when doing shorter trips than her Kia Sorento. My e85 is too low slung and uncomfortable for her so I need to replace it but I love Z4's. Is the E89 noticeably higher and also are the seats noticeably different in the comfort stakes? I only have £7.5K to spend so it will be an early high miler.

Cheers for any help

Here you go, the e89 is generally considered more comfortable over long journeys

I like images like these as it shows that the E89 is not that much bigger than the E85 as some would have you believe.
I wonder if there is a graphic like this that shows the G29 overlayed with them.

Whats wrong with a kia sorento for short trips? Other than it being massive lol.
Sounds like she needs a kia picanto or a corsa, or something equally small.
If you must chop in the z4, how about a 1 series? Still bmw, rwd, and potentially still a 3 litre straight six engine.

Whilst it may be more comfortable, I would suggest that the height you sit at and the appearance of that long bonnet in front of you are broadly similar. We are lucky enough to have one of each and I would say the actual position is not much different.
I'd recommend sitting in one and trying it for size. If the answer is no then you may as well keep the one you have.

Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

All really good comments. Ironically I'm selling the Picanto I bought for the kids as eldest not showing any interest in learning to drive. Wife liked it but I said why don't we get something she likes to drive as well. My Man logic turned this into let's sell both cars and get an E89 but as you say she better try one first.

Not much to add, but I'm not sure your wife will like the E89 more than the E85. It does feel a bit more luxurious and modern inside though so you might be able to convince her that it's the answer

Brilliant images from Pbondar and Smartbear, where do you find stuff like that?!

Once I saw a similar diagram for the Accord. It went from an everyday, practical small saloon to a boat, flirting with luxury. The Z is moving in the same direction. In a way I miss the Z3.

OP, I hope you get to keep your convertible. It’s SO nice.
