Post by pgk188 » Wed Jul 21, 2021 2:03 pm

My first post here......

Has anyone succeeded in fitting LED bubs to the reading light, dome light by the rear view mirror?

If you have please can you post a link of where you got them from?

Thanks

yes- you need the thinner ones

I purchased from ebay the T10 white W5W 501's which are able to fit into the recesses no issue, a 10 pack was about £4 I think which was more than enough to do all footwell, boot and interior lights easily

bigwinn, don't forget this is in the E89 section and you have an E85.
Not sure if there are any differences?

Oh and welcome pgk188, :D

LED Bulbs for reading/dome light

Funny enough I just replaced one yesterday after a couple of years (I bought a pack and did all the cabin lights), it was flickering. Get some plastic trim tools to ease the unit out and watch out for the little black grommet that falls out of the frame!

No problem - yes it is specific to the E89, for some reason the reading light bulbs are on the canbus circuit, so they light and then go out when the car is started. None of the other W5W bulbs are affected.......

I have changed all the interior and boot light bulbs to LED and they work fine. As you mentioned you need Canbus LEDS for the reading lights. I sell LED lights but the ones I keep in stock I didn't find them powerful enough for this application so my supplier sent me some more powerful ones.

Thanks Silverstar,

These are the ones I ended up with, which work thankfully.

Do you have a online shop that you sell the led bulbs from?

Thanks again.

Yes I do although it's a bit of a work in progress at the moment. I also sell on ebay Amazon although it should be noted I am based in Spain.

The bulbs in your link, I have some similar but didn't find them bright enough so my supplier sent me some more powerful ones. Good to know you are sorted now at least.

I bought this from ebay. The orange is a great match to the dials display and looks great. :)
Very easy replacement and works for the fade up and fade off, no errors.
