Hi does anyone know if 2009 E89 is compatible with the new fuel E10?

Just found this on the gov website after a quick search:
”All petrol engine BMW models are cleared for the use of E10 petrol regardless of their year of manufacture but the minimum octane required should be observed according to the owner's manual”

Hope this helps!

You can use up to E60 on the Z4 before you need to upgrade the fuel pump or have supplementary fuelling. A lot of people are using E85 with additional port injection without any issues. Higher the ethanol content the better as far as power goes.

2006 N52 2.5 Sport manual. Just put a full tank in and driven 165 miles with 42.9 average MPG on the motorway. My previous run I got 465 miles on a tank with the same driving. 75% motorway and 25% B roads. :driving:

So on the face of it no difference yet. Performance felt the same. Im sure if it was measured scientifically it might be different but Im happy so far apart from fuel prices currently

Heres your answer.
Picture from the inside of my 35i filler cap cover.

Basically if your using 91RON it needs to be E10 - any other RON can be either E10 or E5

I thought ethanol reduces power output so will have to floor the accelerator more, less mpg.

it might do scientifically but I have not experienced any loss of power or decrease in mpg. Drives fine.

My latest trip to Scotland up the M6 then A7 70mph then 60mph. Journey average 43.9mpg. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

Ethanol should be capable of producing more bhp but worse mpg
