Service?

Post by McHaggis69 » Sat Jun 19, 2021 11:27 pm

Sorry for what might be an obvious question, but what is the service interval on the E89 Z4?

Image

See attached image. The car is telling me a 'Vehicle Check' is due in July. A 'visual inspection'?
There is an independent BMW specialist not far from me, but what exactly is this check? Is it a service? I had the oil and filter changed a few months back when specific warnings came up (as well as the brake fluid).

I think it’s just a visual inspection

its what it says, up on a ramp and given a good look over, pads/bushes/links.steering gear play/dampers etc checked.
Bit like an MOT I guess

Thanks folks,

its not an MoT indicator - that has a separate warning/countdown on the system.

I'll take it along to the independent dealer and ask them to take a look and advise. Given the age of the car I don't mind paying for them to check it over.

Im sure I asked my indy and he said that it is nothing that a service and mot doesnt cover so unless you have a problem reset the indicator.

BMW charge £62.35 for the vehicle check service which includes:
  • All fluids will be checked and topped up if required
All wheels and tyres will be checked for damage, wear and tyre pressure
All electrical systems and lights will be checked for damage and correct set up
Headlights will be adjusted if required
All seat belts will be checked for wear and safe operation
A road test will be carried out if required
                Relevant service light reset
Recommended every 4 years or 36,000 miles depending on driving style and road conditions
+ they will charge you for a standard scope £20.78 (BMW Technician will interrogate your BMW’s computer for error messages and reset completed service indicators)

                so £83.13

Every time Ive dropped mine into BMW for oil/brake fluid service, they always check the car over and quick to announce if anything else needed.

Way nicer than Kwikfit but someone has to pay for the better coffee and real leather comfy chairs! :coffee: (hopefully not me), twice they found something extra and I got my mechanic to do it for a quarter of the price (spring + rear b/pads). Yes I could probably get an indie to do an oil change for £20 cheaper but the dealership is less than 2 miles away (was the supplying dealer, so its whole history with them)

Oh quite right. It wasn't intended as a dig, just pointing out that even the fancier establishments are always poking around looking for ways to get your money. Based on the 'Free winter check' model that finds all sorts of things that must be done at great expense.

Last time I dropped the company car in for bmw I was a bit disappointed to see the video montage from the service tech was all sell sell sell

Your alloys need refurbishing- yep because the paint hasn’t lasted 4 years from factory

Don't worry wasn't taken that way :D , funny enough I found Kwikfit more like that... having a slow puncture that they said cant be repaired and then taking it to another tyre place that said that was rubbish and fixed it for a £10
