Mid-life crisis car?

Post by Pondrew » Mon May 31, 2021 7:04 pm

The Z4 has been out of hibernation for the last week (thanks to the lack of rain and sub-zero temps) and been parked on the drive.
I have had two people ask me if it is a "mid life crisis car". That's two out of the two who I have spoken to whilst outside this week (next door neighbour today and daughter's friend's dad on Thursday).
If I gave a sh*t what other people think, I might get a complex. Luckily I don't, so won't! :D
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

Anyone says that to me about any “sporty” car I’ve had I’ve a standard reply, “no, not a mid life crisis, my whole :censored: life’s been a crisis, now :censored: off”

I also think a lot of its jealousy because their OH’s won’t let them have one

I have had similar but I always reply - had two seater sports cars all my life so I am glad my age has stayed the same for the last 30 years.

Never had it with the Lotus - normally that was, looks fun but how often does it break, must be expensive to repair

Again, people are just jealous as they don't have one and drive round in their 4 door box

Is it possibly just something to say... I often get people passing while I am washing the cars and have lost count the number of times someone has said "if I bring mine along will you wash it too"
      It gets old.

I would love to be a few years younger so I would qualify to be having a mid life crisis!

Fair enough. To comment, though, is strange.
I actually found it rude and told them so. I wouldn't say to my next door neighbour (who has a Japanese SUV of some description); "so you've got yourself a clit car; every c*nt's got one", because that would be rude.

So the first two questions are:

      How old are you?

      How old do you look?

They are probably all bored unhappy with their own life’s and wish they had the balls to buy and spend their hard earned money on whatever they want.

I just say nothing, and walk off into the sunset with my two twenty year old girlfriends

Oh Peter, I live too far from you for a date. Just for the record, though, I'm 36-26-36. I like quiet nights in, eating with friends and am looking for fun with the possibility of more :D
