I bought this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153128812500 ... Sw3vFbaD-i

https://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayI ... spheader=1

Not expensive to buy and run and simple to fit, I haven’t wired in the engine cut off but it’s there if needed, it has a motion sensor so alerts you if the car is rocked/moved, you can set a t up to constantly track the vehicle, (which is more expensive to run) or just have text message alerts with the location in google maps.

Early days of tracking watched Spanish taxi driver drop someone off in some part of Spain on some online map, used google.
Then used street view to look at drop off point.
All a bit spooky really.

I have an old iPhone secreted about the car somewhere wired in for power. I can query it’s location like any “friend” On any of my Apple devices plus using automata I have set it up to send me a text twice a day telling me where car is plus battery level (phone not car!) - mainly to keep the pay as you go SIM active!

Thanks for the tip. Doesn’t even need a sim, which makes it really simple to use.

I use this https://www.amazon.co.uk/tracker-Real-t ... 62&sr=8-15
Along with a giffgaff sim which carries the credit over rather than losing your allowance at the end of the month.
It works by you texting the SIM number and it responds with the coordinates which opens in google maps. I did have it working with an App which which great as it showed real time movement on a map and speed etc but cannot get that part working anymore.
For £17 plus the SIM card, its good value.

Received a set of four airtags and been testing them. With a size of a coin they are easy to hide in the cabin and the Find My app picks upp the location really well. No hardwiring needed, instead a new battery (common CR2032, 3€) once a year.
