ori wrote: Mon Apr 26, 2021 11:34 pm I’ve read all the replies on here. I’m sorry, but forget the compensation. The right thing to do is report them to the police. There are crimes here started with driving your car without consent. The speeding and reckless/dangerous driving is a bonus.
The moral and right thing to do is report it so others don’t suffer.
Totally agree with that. As well as extremely poor conduct, the "boss" has committed crimes here and shouldn't be allowed to get away with it Scott free. Even if no further action is taken, he might at least think twice about being so disrespectful to a customers car in the future.

If the police don't do anything then I'm sure some of the forum members on here would happily post links to the video on his social media. Nothing defamatory just a "Watch these employees enjoy a customers car without any consent. They were especially impressed with its 0-60 time from a cold start. Would've been tragic if one of their own kids or family members was crossing the road at the time."

I’ve had similar (much less serious) things happen when my cars gone in....bmw monkey driving stupidly on test drive, body shop gimp driving fast over the access road to their workshop, even though it’s full of moon crater size potholes and the memory card being removed before a service....

Your bonnet looks good though 👍

I’d report it as dangerous driving, but if linking to that video on your YouTube channel I’d consider removing the one of the Z4 meet in the Lake District where you appear to be filming handheld while driving? Not sure if that’s a bit naughty (might not be) but would be a bugger if they jumped on that?

What have you ended up doing? I hope it’s go to the police. Hopefully prevent this from happening to our poor customers.
On top of going to the police, you could always file a small claims court for your money back. I would do it after the police obviously.

This is just out of order,Mark.
As others have said, go to the Police ASAP, as they only have 14 days to issue a nip from date of the offence,so don't delay.
If you don't, then they could hurt some innocent people the next time.

Plus, they should stopped at treating customers cars this way

What I don’t get is, did they not realise the car had a dashcam fitted? And that it would be clearly picking up their idiotic behaviour???

If you want satisfaction, just send him a note with that video address, Tell him it is getting lots of views from the area. Also tell the police because they may have captured it on traffic cam and be looking for you for traffic offenses.. Also have an attorney send him a letter advising him that the car is being inspected for mechanical wear and damage and that he will be held responsible, and that a use fee is being imposed for wear and tear on motor, tires, brakes etc..
Or just cool it, but let the world see the video.. I have had similar experiences and felt better after telling as many people as possible about it, with Facebook and Yutube.
Best wishes

mcbutler, you brought this up on Saturday, added a bit more on Sunday, but since then, we've all been bumping our gums over this and you've disappeared.
I'm hoping you have taken some form of action and will let us know.
However, your silence is alarming! Did you go for the confrontation approach and are currently cooling slowly in what was the bodyshop inspection pit, under six feet of new concrete?
(Of course, if you are you won't see this anyway, so RIB (Rest In Bodyshop))

Silence could be due to taking legal action

I doubt the police would care, there's no victim involved. Calling them to report that someone exceeded the speed limit is just wasting their time.

Also not sure what the point of legal action would be. Someone took the car out for a 4.5mile drive and went above the speed limit. What demands are you going to put forward? No meaningful wear to the consumables will occur over such a short distance and you'd be hard pushed to demonstrate any ill effects on the engine even if thrashed from cold.

Asking for compensation for a loss you haven't incurred would be interesting. The garage owner might care about his reputation if you post the video up on Facebook and link it to his business but in reality it'll make no difference. It's not good practice but it's common for garage employees to take a car out for a spin even if a test drive isn't required, you get it at backstreet sheds and shiny main dealers.
I had my car in a few times at BMW in Worcester and during a couple of the visits they put 100miles on it for a test drive as one of the techs lives in Leamington Spa, they did ask permission first but I've got no doubt they gave it a spanking.

I think it is 14 days from when they become aware of the offence

You can send video footage of someone speeding and driving dangerously and the police will be interested.

There's a an aggressive cycling vigilante on you tube who records drivers on phones and ignoring keep left signs. He reports the offenders to police - He boasts of his success rates!
