I think they made some reference to it being due to the paint not bonding properly but to be honest I can't recall the detail.
What I do remember is them saying the warranty is not valid if the paintwork fails their original paint test or if the corrosion is found to be due to a stone chip or similar impact.
They also said they love this type of work and welcome any customer who brings in their car for assessment - obviously BMW pay top money to Sytner no questions asked.

Preference would be a newer E89 Z4 with the 4 pot turbo and 8 speed auto just to see what they drive like(mine 35i DCT with adaptive suspension) but will be to old for a courtesy car could see if anything on used approved and get an extended test drive if that's on the cards in covid times. Is yours just one roof panel or both?
Just one - the top one.

Have you got any pictures of the corrosion? Or are posted elsewhere?
Difficult to capture but done my best in the attached photos - if was in both corners of the top panel on the passenger side.
I nearly didn't bother taking it in for an assessment but glad I did - Sytner couldn't have been more accomodating.

Use to have the same blisters on my Jaguar XJ  seen a couple of E89s with this, but funnily enough the wings and bonnet seem to escape from it and they are aluminium also

Do you keep your car outside? I can see the green on the seals so guessing you do. Would be interesting to know if this is more prevalent on cars kept outside..

It would be interesting if it affected certain colours too.

good point, both cars pictured are dark colours so would get higher thermal loads and increased expansion/contraction in sunlight. Mine is red, famous for fading but ok so far but it is garaged 95% of the time....

Our previous 23i was garaged the whole time and our 35i is garaged and Im sure it was garaged by the previous owner. Both are black and had/have no issues.

My 23i had the same corrosion on 3 of the 4 corners but was silver and kept outside by myself and the previous owner so at least 6 yrs outside.

I noticed it in the weeks before I traded it in and if I had been keeping it it would’ve gone back for a warranty claim.

Re keeping outside. Car bought from a forum member in Nov last year. He bought the car as an approved used from BMW Sytner Solihull Birmingham and car had been kept outside in his ownership. He took the pictures as at time we were still in lockdown as he let me know that RAC Inspector had commented on them and car owner sent pics. Only one owner prior to him but no idea if kept inside or out. This is link to sales ad which has pics of car

Seals now all cleaned and Gummi Pflege - amazing difference first thoughts on driving the z4 was that i had made a big mistake selling my 330ci. Z4 so noisy creaks and squeaks from roof and very very noisy runflat tyres. Slowly getting car up to my standards, though this would be easy but "when is the BMW insured warranty- nor a warranty? when dealers haven't updated service records" Sytners Solihull didn't record service that they did when car sold as approved used Finally got that sorted this week,

Just heard back on my roof and all authorised, new pannel being put in. My car is a 59 plate from Aug/Sept so that is good news! It should mean almost all owners should still have time to get a claim in
