Heated Seats
Hi guys.
Had my Z4 just over a year now and whilst I still love it one of the options it did not come with was heated seats.
Is there a way of retrofitting seat heaters? Any recommendations if so?

No worries bud
Reason for asking is that pre Oct 04 bulbs like mine is super easy as the looms etc are in place
After that I think you have to get looms made up but there is someone on here (I forget who sorry) who can make them up for you?
Do a search and it will come up?
Best

It is probably much cheaper to get aftermarket heating pads fitted I had some fitted to an e90 3 series and they worked very well

To be honest I don't really mind going aftermarket but that's a bit of a mine field, too. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks.

I had mine done by a bmw independent cost £350 for both seats and also fitted the switches in a similar position to factory, it looked very neat, unfortunately I don’t think I’m located any where near to youdrewsutton wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 8:30 pmTo be honest I don't really mind going aftermarket but that's a bit of a mine field, too. happy to help.. but you'd need to find some msports heated seats (worth the upgrade alone) which can be expensive. Something like ..https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-BMW- ... 4031073986? Plus the proper switch. Usually about 100 on ebay.. and a bit of coding..Zed Baron wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 5:24 pm Hi, speak to Clarke63 memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=20447 he retrofitted heated/electric seats into his old E89.

Is the wiring for the heated seats likely to be in situ for E89 or does it need wiring too?clarker63 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 9:16 pmhappy to help.. but you'd need to find some msports heated seats (worth the upgrade alone) which can be expensive. Depends if you had heated/electric seats before. If not, you need to create them from scratch (as I had to because I had manual/not heated seats i.e. no high capacity power source to the connector under the seat). Its not that hard, but not many people have done it on an e89, so much of what I was reading was about the 3 series (which the e89 is based on), so some of it was an educated guess. It became a bit of a marathon mainly because I omitted the programming of the junction box, which has a relay that "enables" the passenger seat heating control.ProfCJJ wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 1:57 amIs the wiring for the heated seats likely to be in situ for E89 or does it need wiring too?clarker63 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 9:16 pmhappy to help.. but you'd need to find some msports heated seats (worth the upgrade alone) which can be expensive. Thanks. In my case I have manual m-sport seats - not heated. I don’t mind making up the cabling - It just creates another layer of things needing to do! I was looking at using aftermarket heating pads on my existing seats but plumbing them in to OEM switches and controllers - I don’t think that should be too difficult to sort out.
I just need to slowly start getting the connectors and control boxes. In my case I think I can use two of the “simpler” controllers used on the passenger seat as I don’t have electric seats.
I’m taking my time on this one though - no rush.
Cheers

Best to go slow and sure... but its not obvious if you go OEM, at least to me. On the new ones I installed I went from manual everything to electric/heated/bolster/memory seats - they had two different (but similar looking) modules on them. the drivers just needs connection to the (green/back IIR) control circuit running around the car - whch worked straight away once coded. However, the passenger one comes from the junction box on a specific circuit (also requiring the JBL to be coded). If you're using the "proper" heating switches , you need to be aware of this. it took me a while to really understand the circuit diagrams and what a "module" meant.

Ahh I looked at this option but I have cream interior and don't really want to change everything out! Was hoping it was may be a bit more popular that places could retrofit heated seat pads into the seats I guess! I may have to do some local enquiries perhaps!clarker63 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 9:16 pmhappy to help.. but you'd need to find some msports heated seats (worth the upgrade alone) which can be expensive. I forgot to say that I had started a thread about this here: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=121794. I will update this as I go along and obtain the parts/ construct the loom and start putting it all together.
