Dreaded wheel cracks and tpms

Post by clarker63 » Sun Aug 02, 2020 12:44 pm

just changed the rear pads and noticed both rear rims are cracked.. :( fortunately they are not losing pressure at the mo..

So I know the veemans are popular and I quite like the 437 replicas.. but then i saw a thread talking about having to replace the tpms valves on newer e89s..and an extra 300 of so for the privilege!

Has anyone else swapped them over without issues? I don't want to spend 700 on new wheels then another 300 after that..

Thanks in advance!

On a 64 plate you are likely to need them but think they can be had now for around £120/£140 a set of 4 .
Veemanns are excellent quality but if cost is a factor these genuine M3 ones would look terrific on the vo E89 8)

My car is a 2013 LCI and I was lucky as it did not have tpms valves.... I love those M3 wheels and if it was not for the fact I have recently spent a small fortune in upgrades and I still have a remap and rolling road to pay for those alloys would be coming home with me!!!!

cheers! its just a matter of time i think with these wheels.. i went over what felt like a cliff recently and it could have caused this i guess. I'll get a quote for the weld and then decide. To be fair the wheels already need a refurb so new ones feel the most sensible way to go..

Those M3 wheels are a much better buy than replica wheels. No point replacing weak cast wheels withafter-market cast wheels if you can have proper forged wheels for that price.

Aside from the obvious strength benefits the of the forged wheel you also have less unsprung weight.

Well this is what we have to deal with in the UK and the shambles that is the 326 alloy does not have a cat in hell chance of withstanding a hit with this. My aftermarket Inovit alloy survived though.

no, sadly I can't blame them. It was a particularly bad piece of road which I drove over.. I'm usually very careful to spot them but I came over then brow of a hill at reasonable speed and someone had dug it up and left no signs around it. I can only blame myself for driving down a closed back lane! :headbang: it passed the mot before lockdown so I assume its happened since..

anyone tried mac wheels? The Mac site has quite a cool configuration tool where you can choose the colour of your car, no VO option though..

You can even pretend you own a lear jet...

I then photo shopped the wheels onto a similar picture of my car. Not perfect but I like the "bright" wheels on the car..and closer to OEM than some other options.

Andy, where would you recommend getting the set of TMPS at the price you’re quoting above and is there any particular brand(s) you’d recommend/avoid.

Cheers

Andy
