Wind Deflector

Post by Pecky1964 » Fri May 29, 2020 10:48 pm

I am wanting to fit a genuine wind deflector to my E89.
Please can someone confirm that I will require the actual deflector for around £420 plus I will need to Replace the plastic hoops, around £22 each
Thanks in advance

Please see attachments for details of parts required for genuine wind deflector, the second diagram is the installation inStruction sheet. A lot of people drill the existing hoop covers rather than buy the replacement ones with the correct hole positions. You will find the bits on e bay quite frequently as complete kits, I picked up a complete kit on e bay for £250 approx a year ago.

You got yourself a bargain, I have been looking on ebay for the past year and haven't seen any complete kits close to that price. They seem to be going for around 400 to 500 GBP.

Getting back to the OP's question you need the deflector plus brackets that fit on the hoops, you can buy the hoops with the holes for the bracket already drilled or you can save some money and drill holes in the existing hoops. To complete the look you need the two little deflectors that fit inside each roll hoop. You can pick up a second hand deflector on ebay for around 80 to 120 GBP and those brackets are around 10 GBP for the pair.

Do you know the part numbers for the hoop inserts?

Not sure of the parts numbers at the moment but will keep on hunting. On e bay at moment, centre screen, storage bag, fixing brackets and screws from “ real oem “ for £175. ( Good value at that money ) This is where I got mine from, completely unmarked and wrapped so well it took me ages to get into package. Another site has hoop covers with the holes for £22.50 each. Cannot find the small hoop screens at moment. If you don’t want to buy hoop covers, I can photograph mine and dimension it so that the drill holes will be in the right place.

I've just bought a wind deflector from ebay for £100 which seems about right. I'm aware that I will need to buy the brackets (couple of quid each), completely didn't realise about the hoop inserts :| will they make that much of a difference if just the deflector is in place?

Fireball - if you are able to take a picture and get the dimensions of the screw holes that'd be greatly appreciated - I don't fancy buying new covers for that price! Thanks!

I have just the central deflector without the hoop inserts so I can't say what difference the hoop inserts make but I can say the central deflector just on its own makes a big difference compared to not having anything, especially at higher speeds. The roll hoops covers with pre-drilled holes to fit the brackets are around 30 or 40 GBP for the pair. But it's very easy just to drill the holes in your existing hoops and save yourself 40 quid.

That sounds way too expensive. I bought the windblocker from eBay for £120 and the brackets separately from eBay for another £20. I don’t have the hoop inserts and I don’t think they would really make much of a difference.
