E Torx Sockets Recommendation.

Post by javis20 » Tue Mar 31, 2020 1:13 pm

As the title sez.. Most of the sets I've seen, including the one I bought, does not have the right taper to completely fit on the bolt. With my set, I found it impossible to remove the strut brace bolt. The socket keeps slipping off. Can someone recommend a set that's designed properly.

Just buy Snap-on, you cannot go wrong and they have a lifetime guarantee that they honour. I was an apprentice for Rolls Royce many years ago and a van came round every so often and we all had a little credit book so we could build our tool sets up.
30 years later I broke the ratchet mechanism on my ratchet, I called the local guy, he came round and gave me a new one no questions asked..

Nothing wrong with Halfords tools. I buy a lot of tools from Snapon, as being in aviation there is a lot of quality hurdles with regards too tooling, but for my home collection I have purchased a lot of Halfords professional tools, and they are fine bits of kit to work with.

I have also broken a Halfords tool, which was really my own fault, and they still replaced it without any quibble.

Did they insist on the receipt? I’ve got a halfords professional set but lost the proof of purchase years ago :(

I didn’t have a receipt. Just walked in with the broken tool and and they checked stock and replaced it there and then. As far as I know, the warranty is on the tool, and not the original purchaser, and seeing as all of their tools are marked up with their brand, I don’t see there being any issues with an exchange.

I was told by a Halfords manager a few years back that these are effectively rebadged Draper Expert?
I would certainly recommend them.
I had a 13mm ratchet ring spanner that jammed. Took it to my local branch but they had no spares. The chap opened up a brand new set and gave me the one from that, no questions asked!

Can’t argue with that...very very good quality tools, never had any issues with mine. No need to spend on Snap on unless in the trade.
