So what next after 'dead4'?
So, hopefully, soon, if Audi stop p*ssing me about, I will have my money back. What next? I still haven't made up my mind what to do. I have considered the various options - Don't buy another car. Throw more money at it. i.e. a G29. Buy another 35is which I think is highly unlikely. Get something cheaper. At the moment the get something cheaper is somewhat appealing. I'm thinking 2.0 28i M Sport. Manual gearbox, 18 inch wheels. Maybe newer that the dead4 35is but still cheaper. What do think 2.0 28i M Sport owners and fellow Zedders? Help me out as I don't know what to do.

We are all different. But I can't imagine wafting around in a 2.0 28i M Sport after a 35is. Is it a daily?

No, defo not a daily. I could probably get away with no car seeing the wife has hers and I work from home. It is a total extravagance.

Variable. I paid £18.5k for the 35is which I thought was reasonable for the year and mileage. Here it is at BMW waiting to be picked up. Sad. I liked it.

If there is Garage space, then an ///MR would fill the gap nicely. It's a less complicated car and the better for it as a toy, IMHO.
And a week away with the Mrs from the change.

Affordable (ish) a good drive most will want a bit of money and time spending on them, as a second car you can take your time and spread the cost.
Items that come to mind to spend money on are,
Full fluids change and filters
Full vanos service
Suspension new shocks and some bushes
Rod bearings, have the oil pressure relief valve checked at the same time.

Blimey what was wrong with the 35i to consider this type of car with these problems.PDJ wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 10:50 pm E85 Z4M

They are not problems
But after 13 or so years things don’t last for ever and some is preventative.

I don't think that version is for me. Maybe a younger person. Road tax and fuel consumption is pretty high as well. Ok, if sorn half the year I suppose, which is what I did with my 944 turbo a long time ago.

Well you can go two routes..
This is all IMHO
A 28i is not much slower in the real world than a 35i....the auto 8 speed box is great and much better than the 7 speed DSG in almost all regards..you can get 28i for less money than a 35i for the same spec and mileage...so you can go cheaper or newer or more toys..
The thinking man’s option is to go for a 20i as they are much more plentiful then get it remapped to around 285bhp...40 more than a 28i...then it goes very well, but that brings more emphasis on the 8 speed auto as it’s much faster/adept than the 6 speed manual, and you can always put it manual mode anyway..
The 18i 20i 28i are around 100kg lighter than the 35i and that means around corners they handle much better and they just don’t get edgy when pushed..
I tried a 35is after I remapped my 20i and found it a point and squirt then wobble around the corner in comparison...had gone to buy it with 17.5k cash in my hand..car was pretty much perfect..walked away under whelmed..
Of course some people like that slightly out of control feel and.or must have the biggest..I did this many times in the past and I was never happier as a result..
There are a limited number of issues with the N20 engine but it pails into insignificance against the 35i..
For what’s its worth the Z4M seem to turn into money pits quite quickly so would see a 35i to Z4M as a frying pan into fire job...
Of course if you are great at mechanicing with a nice garage and the time then other options become available...
