Spacesaver wheel
Hey all,
Will a 17" Spacesaver get over the brakes of my 35is ? If I am going none run flats I want a Spacesaver. I hardly ever carry anything in the boot so it is fine.
Thanks.

If all else fails try some back street tyre fitters.
Something i never thought of before i bought a space saver for my 23i, a local tyre fitter had a load of space savers they had collected from breakers and were using as temporary wheels for customers. Guy who told me ended buying the space saver they lent him.

With the space saver in the boot can you still operate the roof?flybobbie wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 8:45 am If all else fails try some back street tyre fitters.

Yes no problem.
Car is my daily driver so i don't miss the loss in boot space, the wheel is about 7 inches wide.
Funny since i bought it 4 years ago, i have never needed it.
Also have the kit with the wool and glue. My local tyre fitter says they use those on lorry and tractor tyres on call outs.

Thanks, question is more of what *size* of Spacesaver wheel will get over the brakes - are the brakes of the 35is the same as other E89's??? I think a 16" will be too small and may need to be 17 or 18????

The day you leave it at home is the day you will get a puncture!flybobbie wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 8:55 am Yes no problem.

I will try the backstreet tyre places then, a few around here.

Your brakes are larger than the smaller engines models, not sure if 17” would fit?step_change wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 10:32 am Thanks, question is more of what *size* of Spacesaver wheel will get over the brakes - are the brakes of the 35is the same as other E89's??? The bigger question is does a normal rear wheel fit in the boot or the front seat?Smartbear wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 11:13 amYour brakes are larger than the smaller engines models, not sure if 17” would fit?step_change wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 10:32 am Thanks, question is more of what *size* of Spacesaver wheel will get over the brakes - are the brakes of the 35is the same as other E89's??? I'd always try with Holt Sealant first. If it didn't fit then I'd try the spare wheel. If I had to, I'd hide the wheel in a ditch somewhere and come back for it later. Sure that's not an option if in France, but I don't go to France that much and if I did I'd make sure I had cover and forego the spare. The spare is more for me nipping out and about on work business. Oftentimes with a flat just a reinflate of the tyre and you can get another 50 miles from it
BTW - I notice that some of the emergency rescue dudes will charge you if you have changed the car from its original specification to none run flats and they have to flatbed you because of a change you made.

I got a 17” space saver a few months ago - fits fine. Roof has to stay up if you put a punctured normal wheel in boot of course but rear fits. I tried it. If it doesnt go over the brakes then use a rear wheel on the front and put space saver on back just to get you home.. (mines fine, its just a 20 ).

I put a 19" rear tyre in the boot (once I pick up another alloy Ill use as a spare), so a wheel will fit and allow the roof to be droppedNictrix wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 12:06 pmThe bigger question is does a normal rear wheel fit in the boot or the front seat?Smartbear wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 11:13 amYour brakes are larger than the smaller engines models, not sure if 17” would fit?step_change wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 10:32 am Thanks, question is more of what *size* of Spacesaver wheel will get over the brakes - are the brakes of the 35is the same as other E89's??? I meant it fits in the Boot with cover down and still space left for a squashy bag. Ive got 19s on my 20i. The 17” space saver with tyre is near enough the same overall diameter as the full size wheel. This what I have got. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 2737511430

That seems a bit pricey for 17 inch.davemul wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 3:58 pm I meant it fits in the Boot with cover down and still space left for a squashy bag. Ive got 19s on my 20i. I think i paid about £125, wheel, jack and brace. Steel wheel. But would it clear the 35i brakes i don't know.
It wasn't quoted as being for the E89, i traced it back from a US site selling the same, it was just a fairly std size for lots of BMW's. And i can get the 18 inch alloy in the boot or on the front seat.
