JamiesZ4 wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 10:20 am In regards the insurance company situ, that's a bit harsh/stubborn on their part. I am with Swinton and notified them that I had changed my wheels from the 18" BBS split rims to 19" 437M's and they were fine, no increase in premium and happy to send out new policy paperwork reflecting their agreement to the change.
Agreed mate.
Coincidentally I am within the 14 day cooling off period of my renewal that starts beginning of Feb. So I am cancelling with the AA and have found alternative quotes elsewhere.

It just goes to show though that you do need to tell your insurance company about a change like this

EDIT: I do note that the compulsory excess goes up by £250 when none standard alloys selected. Anyone else note that?

Apologies for not responding. With the wheel spacers (because of the offsets on the replicas I have) you will need longer bolts (don't forget longer locking wheel bolts too). Genuine ones will indeed not require spacers, tramlining isn't a problem, and regarding insurance companies I use Chris Knott insurance and they've been great as long as you mention when the wheels are swapping onto their summer/winter kit.

Just found this online, which says if you are fitting original manufacturers wheels you do not need to tell the insurance company, they only need to be told if fitting aftermarket brand of wheels:

It's very slight, just against the front of the arch liner. I've been driving with it for 6 months now and there's no damage, it just seems to brush against it. Next time I'll go for 245/35.
Front as in the outer edge of the front tyres on the plastic inside the wing? Or the inside nearer the engine?

So you run 275/35/R19 rear and 255/35/R19 front? Does the Z or Y you see on tyres actually matter that much?

Thanks for answering all my questions!
The outer edge of the tyre contacts the front of the wheel liner. On the drivers side it grazes the little vent that covers the oil cooler.
I’m lost here, why are you running 255 front and 275 rears on a standard 9j rim and having them rub..? On the first page of this thread Andy Wilkes is saying drop from the standard 255 rear to 245, which I don’t get either, why drop in width, what possible benefit does that have..? :scratchhead:

I’m curious as I’m about to order some new boots for the standard 326 wheels and struggling to get why you guys wander so far off standard fitment. :?

i just don't think a 30 profile rear tyre is enough & judging by the latest models Bmw are selling nor do they now
I would always go 35 on the rear so with a 296 or 326 19inch rim being 9j (width) dropping from 255 to 245 whilst upping from 30 to 35 has little effect on speedo or grip but improves ride & wheel protection plus closes arch gap & actually looks like the wheel has a tyre on rather than not .
Just my own take , many may disagree

Fair enough. What I found though was with MPSS’s on door pillar pressures, which i found to be spot on after trying a few pounds up and down, was that in comfort with the 30 height they were ‘almost’ too soft, so personally I’m going to stick with 30 as 35 will be like driving a marshmallow..... :P Each to their own as usual though.

The 437M are 9J front and 10J rear. The recommended widths for a 9J wheels are either 245 or 255 and for a 10J they are 265 or 275.

For standard wheels the 8j front should have 225 or 235 and the rear 9j should be 245 or 255.

You know when you post something, then after a while you have a light bulb moment that says....”Why didn’t I ask if he’s on standard rims or not”....or similar.....

Right I am about to place my order with black circles. 4 x Mich PS4’s for £655 all in. Does this sound a reasonable deal? Only looking at another £100 to what a full set of Vred’s would work out.

Remapped, and currently “interior” rattle free.

I paid just over £600 for a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's - 235, 35, 19 fronts and 255, 35, 19 rears, so your pricing for the Michelins seems quite reasonable, as I was quoted nearer £700 for a set of 4 of Mich's, hence going for the Goodyear's instead.

Just had a pair of 265/30/19 fitted P4S, for £404. I did see 35 series come in quite a bit cheaper than 30 series.
The car had 255/35 but looked narrower than the actual rim, so I went up 10mm and back to correct profile. So the side wall is still a little higher than stock. Comfort see just as good (P Zero came off). They do look right now.
Really can’t see any benefit in going narrow on a summer tyres, certainly not if you have any of the larger power outputs.

Your rims are 9.5j , "jamiesZ4" if on stock 19s will be narrower so 9j
For reference 9.5j M3 tyre sizes are 255 35 19  going wider doesn't always mean more tyre on the tarmac :? by switching to 265 30 you might not have increased your tyres contact area if that's what you were aiming for .

On Oponeo the 265/30 Vreds are quite a bit cheaper than the 255/35. That’s what swung it for me in the end.

Whereas it tends to be the other way around :? don't some go 275 30 19 on the M3 9.5s when wanting more rubber ?
