2.5l into a 2.0i body! Help!!

Post by hill.drw » Wed May 22, 2019 6:11 pm

Good afternoon all!

So to cut a very long story short... I have a 2.0i sdrive and my N20B20A engine died on me.... Thrust bearing failed... Crankshaft drilled a nice wee hole in my case as the engine went bang :!:

I've now managed to acquire a 2.3i (2.5l straight 6) and plan on putting the engine from that into my 2.0i shell...

Thoughts and advice welcome, I'm a total noob on this sort of thing but competent enough to follow instructions :D

Is it possible, what do I need to consider when making the transplant! If I go ahead with it I'll document fully my steps for future generations! Haha

Cheers!
David

I hope you bought a lot more than just the engine to go with it.
I would imagine that the wiring harness and a lot of the electrics will need to be changed and you will need a new exhaust.

Haha! I've bought the whole car! Probably should have been a bit clearer

A nice wee Valencia orange with a gloss black roof but no engine!
And another with a working engine but "slightly" bashed!

So why not just find another 2.0 engine and px and get shot of the 23i.
Or transfer body panels to the bashed 23i.
Transferring the electrics i would imagine would be a nightmare.

Option to swap the panels across might be the way! Although with the airbags going?.... Easy enough to swap them?

Got this car ridiculously cheap, hence the purchase!

Swapping the panels still leaves you with a white body when you open the doors, bonnet and boot though.

Any warning prior to the engine failure?
How many miles had it done?

52000 miles!
Bit of a whine.... I assumed it was some electrical interference, sounded like it was coming from the radio, increased noise with RPM... But didn't sound bad, then bang. Was still driving, but sounded like a bag of bolts!
Total sh*te situation.... But hey ho, almost over it now! Lol

Damn, I will need to listen out for it. I have heard it is a fault with these engines.

Looks like you have everything you need to transplant the engine, drivetrain and whatever else is needed.

Nice project
