What is a safe level to Lower a 35iS ?

Post by Mavster » Fri May 17, 2019 10:01 am

Hi all,

I am thinking of changing wheels on the iS and think to make the wheels look good I will need change the springs for a lower ride.
I want a good compromise between real world city driving ( speed bumps) and decent wheel/ suspension looks with the new wheels on.

2 Questions...
What would be the ideal spring/ lowering level based on the above ? 15mm ? or less/more ?

Also which brand of spring is best ? Eibach, H&R or some other with better height solution ?

Thanks

QWell I can't fulling comment on this but I can say I have bought some Eibach pro springs for my 35i with 10mm rear and 20mm front, yet to get them put on yet.

On my 35is, I had eibach lowering springs, with 9" wheels up front and 12mm spacers, and 10" wheels in the back. The car was stanced perfectly at the front, I would have liked abit more at the back, but it was close enough.

That is as low as I would go, even with just the subtle drop that the eibachs gave, it was very easy to scrape the front end of the car.

In my experience H&Rs lower the rear too much.
Almost lost the top part of the tyre which for me is over the line of what looks right / what looks wrong
Fronts were OK tho , can't comment on Eibachs regards height as not tried on E89 but the Zs I have had on them never impressed me from a comfort aspect :o yes looks were good but ride not improvement over Bmw springs imo

My best advice would be to get the wheel widths/offsets & tyre size right.
Then see if you want to lower it as you may find you don't need / want to.
