Hi all,
Going to view a e89 Z4 35i tomorrow. However it doesn’t have USB, only aux. Is this something that can be retrofitted at a later date ?
The car has everything else I’d require. Would be a real shame if this can’t be done.

It's possible, it would need coding in.
Does it have iDrive?

Yeah the addition of the USB socket & wiring, a new headunit (that has the ability for a USB input) and the Bluetooth MULF unit. Relatively straight forward but the coding is complicated for the MULF due to it needing an expensive bit of kit to code it.
Another option, although not any cheaper but a lot easier and NO coding required, is the Android touchscreen that has built-in Bluetooth phone and streaming as well as options for Apple Carplay and/or Android Auto, DAB, Reversing camera, front camera, Torque and others features. With you already having iDrive then it'll integrate perfectly with what you already have and will still display what you get now so you loose nothing apart from the new screen is a fixed screen so no up and down.
The best of it being that it's all plug-n-play with no modifications required, so when you come to sell the Z you simply remove it, put the old screen back in and then put the new screen in your next Z4 or sell it on.... win, win

That Android screen looks like a good idea Dave.AnubisZed wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 1:43 pmYeah the addition of the USB socket & wiring, a new headunit (that has the ability for a USB input) and the Bluetooth MULF unit.
