How? By doing the accelerator re-set and the box then 'learning' your driving preferences?

Or is there a direct software intervention?

As far as I'm aware you can only write different BMW maps onto the DCT. Other standard automatic boxes have software such as xHP which can fully customise the operation. I'm not certain if it works on the automatic transmission in the Z4 though.

I have the BMW 135i DCT software on my car as it gives a lower (3500) launch control RPM. The shifts are supposed to be quicker but I honestly cannot tell.

There is also the option of flashing the BMW M3 GTS software to the Z4 DCT but this requires replacing the gear selector. The bonus of this change is that you also get the adjustable drive logic shift settings so you can select how fast the car shifts.

I've used it a few times. To be honest I don't think it's any faster than just flooring it.
