Sad to see another Zed wrecked. I guess with modern crumple zones mean there's much more damage to the vehicle

Damn it, could you maybe buy it off the insurance co & accept a lesser payment?
Might be worth getting it repaired yourself, maybe getting better prices?

That's so sad to see - but so long as you and the OH are OK the rest can be dealt with.

I can't believe your insurer thinks it is beyond economical repair - bad as the damage looks surely it can't be that expensive to repair?

Has the insurer actually bothered to send someone to look at it?

I'm only wondering because my nephew had an accident last year and his "senior naval person often sitting on his rear" insurer didn't bother - they called his car a Cat S based on the photos he took on his 'phone. :headbang:

It took quite a while to find his car in the first place - it's an E46 manual 325i Sport Touring in Imola Red so pretty rare, although maybe less so than a 35i Z4 - but he loved it so he did a deal to keep the car. He got it fixed for what the insurer paid him including a new driver's wing on the undamaged side as the original was crusty, and it meant all the stone chips on the front got painted as well!

So now he has the same car in better condition than when he bought it at no additional cost, but it does have a Cat S marker (which should have been a Cat N, but his insurer doesn't understand the difference) :headbang:

Depending on your situation/viewpoint you might want to explore the option of keeping your car.

Good luck getting things sorted to your satisfaction anyway.

Thanks for your kind thoughts everyone.

As with any approved Bodyshop they have to give a guaranteed repair so basically anything that looks like it needs fixing they will replace, looking at the estimate there are lots of bits that they would replace which probably don’t actually need to be.

Saying that though the bonnet is £750 headlights £800 each all +vat plus the bumper, intercooler, radiator and all associated brackets and screws and other bits of plastic that are cracked or broken have been quoted for. Parts alone come to 7k+
Crazy when you think I was only doing 10mph max and the car that hit me was a Fiat 500 Arbath.

As I’ve already said I’m gutted but we are both ok, it’s just a massive inconvenience and I don’t think I’ll find another one quite as special.

Well I guess it just depends how much you love your car, and what options there are.

My nephew found an E46 bonnet on Ebay for less than £100 delivered, so there may be options!

That's tragic. Verry sorry to see.
Reminds me of when someone swiped the front of my old E36 coupe 2 months after I'd had it.
13k damage tho, seriously?

Terrible, lovely car that, I remember when Mr Wilks had it thinking that would be the spec colour Id want if I was going down the E89 route. If you are contemplating buying it back and fixing it the cheapest option might be to approach someone/a scrap yard who's breaking one and doing a deal for the job lot of parts it needs.
Have you asked them how much they want to buy it back? There might be a few members interested in saving it if its not for you.

I really feel for you, mate :( . I hope it works out for you and you either get her back on the road, or get a fair payout for a replacement. As others have said, at least no damage to the important cargo.

If you are thinking of accepting the money best to change the number plate over beforehand otherwise the insurance company would own it.

Awww man. Gutted for you. Hope you get a decent pay out.
As hard as it is, remember it is only a tin can and that you and your wife got out safely. The car can be replaced. Your legs/life can't...
