When is next Service Due

Post by Davidcliff » Sun Feb 10, 2019 5:54 pm

Hi
I have 2011 e89 3.0I Manual and I purchased it from BMW as a used car . I purchased it 20/05/18 with one years warranty .
I do find the servicing requirements confusing so what needs doing ?

Current miles 38511
History appears to be all BMW main dealers:
9875 miles January 2103 with oil ticked
12954 miles October just the little car ticked
19722 miles February 2105 with oil ticked
28847 miles February 2017 with oil ticked
34224 miles May 2018 just the little car ticked

So is it due a Feb 2019 ( now) service with oil ?
Car says :Vehicle Check 02/19 -- 19000 miles
Vehicle Inspection 05/19
Brake fluid 06/19
Oil 06/19-- 13000 miles .
Brakes rear 31000
Front 60000

Thanks

Brake fluid is due in June.

Oil is due in June or in 13000 miles of that comes sooner (doubtful?).

Not sure why you have separate dates for vehicle check and vehicle inspection. Would have thought these were the same thing.

If you are not one for changing the oil yourself, I would get them all done at the same time, probably in May when the inspection is due.

One is just a BME health check( 02/19) and not worth anything, the other is MOT (05/10)

I always get an oil and brake fluid change done together once a year (keeps the service book stamped), BMW are quick to tell you if they spot anything else. Air filter and cabin filters are easy to do yourself.

And between services, Davidcliff, wait until the sign says 'Add oil' and put in a litre. :)

I am sure this has been written before but the whole service thing does drive me mad . I have serviced my own cars for 35 years and looking at the price from both an independent and main dealer the prices are criminal , all to keep a service stamp in a book and turn a reminder off.
No way does brake fluid need changing every two years and why change a set of spark plugs that work fine in every company car on the road for 100k miles every 15k miles its just crazy . Then the pollen filter, I have driven the car with roof on once in the last year :)

We used a brake fluid analyser on a Focus that had not had it's brake fluid changed for 10 years and the water content was still so low as to not be a problem. IMHO changing brake fluid is a bit of a rip off. :fuelfire:

Agree and if you can arrange it so they coincide with the MOT so much the better.

My business partner just been quoted £670 for her little Merc. to have first service at 30k.
I said what they going to do, replace the gearbox!

Probably go indy guy we know who will do it for probably £300.

Davidcliff, it's a 2011 car, wait till warranty runs out, just go local garage and ask them to change things if you can't do them yourself.

Just booked the service at BMW main dealer , what a bad experience talking to them and telling them what I wanted done , if it does not fit into their package they are very awkward . I have bitten the bullet and book £450 of service for the wretched book but at least this will work for the next owner. Car will go up for sale when the work is done , so I can sell with genuine and up to date full BMW service history .
