Keyless relay hack /theft

Post by Adil_3 » Thu Feb 07, 2019 2:54 pm

Hi guys,

So in recent news alot of the cars in my locality are getting stolen, via keyless relay or whatever the method. Anyone know if the z4 e89 can be targetted with comfort access or are we the lucky ones. Also what are your methods to prevent theft

Get a faraday cage for your key. It stops signals from getting in or out, which means that the keyless relay cannot boost the signal from your key (sat inside your house) to your car. You can get them as key bags with a lining that prevents signals from escaping/getting in.

As to any vulnerability in the Z4, I've no idea I'm afraid.

Steering lock is probably a good idea, as someone I know, with their key in a safe bag, still had his M4 stolen, seems there is some pretty sophisticated software that will tap into a cars computer
Z4 Mineral Grey, 28i MSport Auto, lots of goodies
Z4 E85 3.0, gone but now with son :D

Unfortunately unless you’re going to have it in a guarded compound (and even then) if someone wants your car, they’ll find a way to take it. Not sure how desirable the E89s are these days for folk nicking them. I thought I’d miss the comfort access on my new car but actually I don’t miss it cause I hardly used it anyway and I have less scope for the car being nicked. Granted new BMs have keyless start even without keyless entry.
