Roof won't open :(

Post by Carrotbay » Tue Jan 22, 2019 6:49 pm

Hi

I have a problem with my roof on my Z4 E89. When holding the button down the boot will open, the rear screen will go onto the roof and the roof and screen will go into the boot .. however it stops there and the boot stays up and doesn't close. If I press the button to put the roof back up again then it all closes as you would expect.

Is this a common issue? .. is there a switch or something I can check? (I ran a diagnostics check with a Foxwell and there are no fault codes)

Thanks

Phil.

Sounds similiar to my problem, turned out to be just a loose connector.
The connector is quite long so can look closed up.

Sounds like a microswitch issue.

Fairly cheap to have fixed at BMW.

You can search the topic on here and read about the roof operation to determine the most likely cause.

I got mine fixed for about £190

Yes it is interesting that the micro switch in that area is now only available as the long wired version. Perhaps they knew they were having problems with the short wire version and that connector.
