But how about what it actually works out too by calculation, never mind what the DIS say's :poke:

Your question assumes that the odometer is accurate, which it probably isn't. Well, not any more than other measuring devices in the car.

Preferring one to another is a waste of time, really. :)

My question assumes that the DIS is accurate and very often they aren't. What I'm getting at, is do you do a manual calculation to see what you get to the gallon or do you rely on the DIS calculation? A manual calculation is the only true way to see what you're actually getting. i.e. measure the mileage you've done from a full tank to the point that you've re-filled it and then calculate your MPG from that.

So in other words you're relying on the DIS calculation which means you could be getting 15mpg for all you know

eff1guy, your assumption that 'accuracy' is available only by reading your odometer and then dividing the number of miles since your last fill by the number of gallons you put in your tank - to give a 'true', comparable mpg - is naïve, because, among other factors:

- The 'accuracy' of your odometer will depend, not least, on your wheel size.
- Your 35iS mileage will read differently from mine, because we have different size wheels.
- Fuel delivery at petrol stations is not 'accurate'. A random AA survey found over-delivery - yes, over - of 4% above pump display.
