Lunchtime getting to know you

Post by cre8toruk » Mon Jan 07, 2019 5:10 pm

Hi All,

so I spent this lunchtime trying figure out all the bells and whistles and bits and bobs and additional functions in my E89 MY2013 Z4.

I think I figured out the USB stick thing (time will tell on that), I figured out the seat, tilt, lift, back rest, folding mirrors (didn't know I had 'em), rain sensing wipers etc etc.
I think I've figured out the other bits but there's a couple I'm not sure I've got to the bottom of...

So the manual seems to say the car should have High Beam Assistant i.e. automatic full beam but I can't figure out if I've either not got it or if it's just that I'm not turning it on correctly. Is there a way to check?

Also with the heater, I can set the temperature and set the air to come out the vents but then in the middle of the dash under the two central vents is a wheel with a blue and red spot on it, which seems to make the air coming out cooler or warmer depending on whch way they go... Why would I need that if I have temperature controls? I'm sure there's a perfectly good explanation, just my thick head can't quite figure out what it is!

I've had a look at the whole profile setting, seat position etc etc thing but I'm not sure I can be bothered to attempt to set all that up.

Lastly, I'm presuming I don't have the "comfort package" as the door doesn't open when I walk up to it with the remote in my pocket but is there a way I can say for sure?

Coming from an elise who's idea of air conditioning was opening both windows at the same time, I've got function & feature overload, not to mention a stereo with some bass ! :-)

Put the last 7 digits of your VIN number in here https://www.mdecoder.com and it will list the specification of your car. Below is a photograph under the bonnet on my E89 just so you have some idea! :D

Probably lots of thing in the manual you won’t have. As above check your spec with an online vin checker.

Presume you have posted pictures up?

I really like that feature! Even when it is cold and the heater is busy warming the cabin up, I don't want heated air in my face.
Coupes because stunning!

Yeah somewhere on Page 1.

So far pretty much everything in the manual I've located. BMW seem to produce good specific manuals for each model.

The issue with the high beam assistant (and really I'm not that bothered if I have it or not), is that it doesn't say it's an optional extra, so you might be forgiven for expecting it to be there. That being the case the fact I haven't found out / understood how to turn it on leads you to beleive that I was doing something wrong. The manual is good but sometimes a little vague.

Half the fun of buying a new (to me) car is finding out all the bits and bobs and functions and features. I think I've got the steering wheel and seat in the right position now but it's changed about 20 times since Saturday so I can't say that for sure!!

Have you put your VIN in the link I gave? It will tell you everything you have on your car. If it isn’t on the list you haven’t got it.
