Getting confused with these tyres so help needed please!

My 2.0M sport has Bridgestone run flats.

Fronts: 225/40R18 88W
Rears: 255/35R18 90Y

I would like to replace with Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3s all round. Exact same sizes and ratings don’t appear to be available so what have others done? Anyone else bought these Goodyears? If so, what sizes did you choose? Given a choice, a bit more comfort would be nice!

go upto 225/45/18 & 255/40/18

Thanks road warrior. Unfortunately, after much searching it looks like the Asymmetric 3s are not available anywhere in the 255/40 R18 size. Does increasing the profile leave enough room in the wheel arch? I have standard setup as far as I know. Do you think the XL rating of a tyre is needed for the Z4?

You could go with 245/40/R18 instead, these are available in Goodyear F1 A3

The short answer is yes. As an added bonus the 245 stuff is a lot cheaper than the 255 stuff

Don't Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3s have the reputation for poor wheel rim protection and wouldn't going down to 245 worsen this?

I recently replaced my rear asy. 2 with 3. Well they just feel different. Don't know if it's because they are newer and i just got used to the 2, but they seem harder and certainly now the temperature as dropped, when i first move off they seem wobbly or the flat spot from over night parking is noticeable. Knew i should have bought the 2's, they were faultless.

Interesting your finding that, I've currently got 225/45 F1 A3 on th front and 225/40 F1 A2 on the back and haven't noticed any real difference in ride quality between the front and rear, even at lower temps. The only major things I did notice when I switched out the PS3's on the front was the ride is definitely better on the front now and tramlining has basically disappeared

The rim protector is the same size regardless of the tyre width. Its now not as obtrusive/bulky as in previous generations of F1 tyres but still does the job more than adequately, its a neater solution really.

Think this guy says it's stiffer sidewall, which if too much will bring back the tram lining we had on rft.
This is the impression i get is that the tyre is stiffer, that's why now cooler it runs like 50 pence piece for the first 5 mins.
The asy 2 has a softer tread but the base is stiff, my tyres near the wear limit just wouldn't wear out. They run daily for six months with no noticeable wear, just noisier.

Interesting vid, although the tester says the sidewalls are harder for better feedback on the A3, he goes on to say that the tyre overall are at least as comfortable as the previous A2 and the goodyear bod even claims they're more comfortable. My experience of them is they're fairly similar in the comfort stakes (Front A3 Rear A2). They're certainly better than the PS3 that came off in all departments. I was put off the PS4 despite they're brilliant handling simply because some of the road test/reviews I read stated they're quite hard riding. Not the most scientific test I know, but before I bought mine I went down to Costco and compared the hardness of the sidewalls of the PS4/A3 and the PS4 was noticeably stiffer.
