E89 35is exhaust fit a 30i?

Post by gwatson » Mon Dec 24, 2018 2:54 pm

Afternoon,

Following on from my "new" car post, I have a used 35is exhaust which I bought thinking I'd fit it to a 35i. However, I ended up buying a 30i.

Besides having to change the diffuser and new mounting brackets (which you can buy) does anyone know if the exhaust can be fitted without any customisation?

Would there be any issues with back pressure with it being and exhaust designed for a turbo setup, but fitting to my NA car?

Hi, that’s going to need fabrication skills to fit for sure I reckon-although it’s still an e89 the engines are different and it’s not going to line up imho :?

If it goes right up to the manifold then no it won’t fit. The 35is has two turbo manifolds which yours doesn’t. It might fit post cat but I can’t really see any benefit from swapping pipes anyway. If you want more noise or a very slight increase in power you need an aftermarket system designed for your car. The exhaust flap open might give a bit more sound over stock I guess but IMO sell the 35is exhaust and pocket the cash or put it towards a new system which will give you more noise if that’s what you want but little in the power stakes, a couple of bhp maybe.

E89 35is exhaust fit a 30i?

Morning,

I've done a little research on this. Some people seem to suggest the 35i\35is exhaust is based on a 30i exhaust with a second (smaller silencer) on the right hand side of the car. If you look at the pictures below, you can see that could well be true and it should be possible to fit, mounting brackets etc all seem the same. I'm going to give it a go, could\should give a nice increase in volume, but keep it looking OEM.

Personally I think it will fit no problem if you’re only looking at the 2 rear silencers. My 28i even has the heat shielding there I think where the 35i/s’s 2nd silencer should go!
