Steering wheel Diameter non M-Sport

Post by Bodben » Tue Dec 18, 2018 6:53 pm

Odd question but would someone be able to tell me the total diameter, and thickness (as in of the outer rim) of the non M-Sport steering wheel of an E89?

Had my re-trimmed unit fitted yesterday and having driven around in it for a day I think that the 2mm thicker I asked for may have come out more like 6-8mm, in which case it's going to have to go back.

Sadly fitting was done in the dark late last night and at the time I didn't notice!

Maybe it's just me but as I no longer have the standard wheel I can't compare.

Cheers!

I've just swapped my wheel for a m sport one and my standard measures 360mm diameter, thickness is actually oval in shape and measures 28mm x 34mm

Thanks Mate!

Very Helpful,

My new one measures in at 40mm thickness! 6mm sure is a bit more than what I asked for. I'll give it a day or two in case it starts to feel a bit more 'normal'. I got 368 for the diameter but that was in the dark with a tape measure.

Cheers!

Update,

New one is 34mm and 40mm in terms of oval profile so way bigger than the 2mm bigger I asked for! Looks like she's going to have to go back.

Shame, it's a beautiful wheel.

Sounds like it was done with a 2mm wrapping which would make it at least 4mm bigger. I prefer a thicker wheel. This m sport wheel is thicker and softer and it's made the car feel even better.

Sounds like a miss understanding on my part perhaps,

Anyway, it's not the end of the world. The wheel itself is beautiful and as with my last one (on the TT) the craftsmanship is second to none.

I suppose I got used to how dinky the standard wheel was!

How think is the M-sport wheel out of interest.
