35i - Is Here !

Post by enzed4 » Mon Dec 03, 2018 9:57 am

I picked it up from the transporters this morning, drove it back to work then had to wait until I could get it home before I could really look at it. It was pretty dirty from the trip so I gave it a quick wash, and changed the wheels to the 224's.
There are a ton of things to do - mostly small tidy up jobs, but unfortunately when I opened the boot I discovered the load through hatch has been torn off it's mounting tabs. God knows how someone could have done that, unless it was the person who installed the bluetooth unit then had to remove it (as it didn't have music streaming - they will fit the music streaming bit when it arrives).
The previous owner has added pod filters (don't know if they're any good or not), strut brace, Bilstein shocks (see pics below) and LCI indicators (nice :) )
Here are a few pics, excuse the poor quality, it was getting dark, I was tired, etc etc...:

I found these hiding behind the wheels - Bilstein shocks - no idea what sort they are - anyone know by these pics?

Also uncertain about the blue brake calipers. I'll leave them for a bit and decide whether to change them to black or silver. They look like a good quality job (professional?) but the colour really doesn't seem to match anything else...

Replacement air filter - the BMW Box filter has been removed and two pod style filters added.
They're on the right side of the engine in this pic:

Cheers, I've not seen them on an E89 before but wasn't happy wit the 17" wheels on rft's that it came with.

Agree - it does seem a bit of an odd choice, but won't rush into a colour change just yet

Yes - there doesn't seem to be anything else blue to 'tie' it together with...

I’ve never thought it was a good idea to draw in hot air from under the bonnet but apparently it doesn’t really matter with a turbo engine as the compressed intake air is pretty hot anyway.
I suppose that’s what the intercooler’s for :?
Hope your new zed is a good one

Looks nice.
I would assume as the previous owner did work on the suspension, strut brace and filters that it's quite likely the car has been remapped too.

When you've done the bits you want, you could have a bit of fun with the strut brace. Try the car with & without it and see if it works or not.

Whatever, examine the nuts for cracks and then make sure they're torqued right.

Thanks. I've been wondering about whether it's been remapped. Is there any way to tell without putting it on a dyno? I've not driven any other 35i's so have nothing to compare with.

Good thinking - any idea what torque settings the strut brace should be at?
