strange device found behind clocks

Post by Nick9one1 » Sun Oct 21, 2018 7:11 pm

I've been trying to remove every squeak and rattle form the Z4 recently. The dash had a few creaks so I took it apart and taped up all the areas where plastic contacts plastic with sticky back felt.

I took the clocks out because I noticed a slight noise, and discovered this.
Does anyone know what it is? I'm guessing some sort of GPS tracker?
Pretty sure its not factory due to the duck tape securing the wiring. It doesn't have any makings or part number on it.

Yup thatโ€™s what it is, follow the cables back and youโ€™ll find the main unit.

Thanks. I'll trace the wires back and remove.

I was tempted to cut it out when I found it but wasn't sure if it would disable the car!

If you can find out which company had the tracker contract, you could probably re-activate it.

That's not a bad idea. The main box possibly has more info on it.

It could reduce your insurance.

Ask the previous owner/seller?
