What's the difference between a standard gear knob and ZHP?

its supposed help with smoother gear shifts, but not sure if its an e89 mod that's done.

I'm confused :? How can simply changing the knob do that?

I believe its to do with the ergonomics of the zhp which make for less notchy shifts.
have not had one, so don't quote me.

It’s the ergonomics & also the weight as the zhp is double the oem fitment it helps to “damp out” any notchiness and the added momentum assists the throw action (that’s my theory anyway) :P

Pity the gearbox wasn't designed properly in the first place.

Not E89 specific, but the ZHP matches the M Sport steering wheel in ergonomics. It is also shorter what a shorter throw.

It certainly helps on an E86, so I'm sure it would do the same on an E89.

CDV delete on my E86 and E46 was a big improvement, so I'm sure it helps any manual BMW - just need to get it removed from my E91 now!
Coupes because stunning!

I fitted the ZHP to my e85 where yes it made a massive difference, can’t say I feel the need on my 35i as it’s already a shorter knob than the e85 and the shift is just fine.
Same for the CDV.

The 89 is a completely different drive to an 85 much less aggressive and much more refined. In truth whenever I drove my 85 I wanted to drive like a hooligan where as the 89 is much more like a wolf in sheeps clothing and will be driven both ways.
