Thinking about returning

Post by philb280 » Fri Sep 21, 2018 11:21 pm

Hi all, it’s a few years since I sold my 05 Z4 but I’m now looking to buy another.
My old one suffered the sticky steering , do the E89’s suffer the same issue.
I haven’t driven a new shape one my old one was the 2.5 so I know I’m going to lose the silky straight 6 , how does the 2.0 litre compare in terms of performance or should I look at the 2.8 ?
Is there anything to look out for ?
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Phil

You know you want to OP.

From what I have read facelifts don't seem to suffer from "sticky steering" as much as pre-facelifts, so that gives you loads of choice.

An E89 2.8 still has a 4 cylinder engine with a turbo - just a bit more boost/remap than an 18i or 20i.

If you want a straight 6 you probably need to look for a facelift E85/E86, or a pre-facelift E89 23i or 30i.

Good luck finding the right one.
Coupes because stunning!

The E89 has a straight 6 in the 2.3i (actually a 2.5) as well as the 3.0 and 3.5, I've got the 2.3i and it is indeed very silky. Lovely thing. The 4 bangers much less so. You need to try one to see if you can live with it.

Cheers guys n gals -

Really depends on trade in on Kuga- I know - slight size difference family growing up so no need for big car and it's about time my Mrs got the boring drive instead.Probably around the 16k mark although prices seem all over the place from Sub 12k upwards - don't really want to go backwards in terms of reg plate from Kuga (14) so the 23i (no dots now :D ) is probably out
as well as increase in tax .
Think I need to drive a few and see where im at
