I spend about 99% of my driving time in comfort mode, but today put it in sport plus for half a hour. Was quite surprised at the difference.... but made me wonder... what is the point of the middle setting and why would anyone use it?

I use sport because I prefer the heavier steering but my skills are too lacking to loosen the traction. Should try and arrange some time on a skid pan at some point

Most of us are kept between the ditches because of the electronics!
I don’t think the systems are ever entirely off - (please correct me if I’m wrong  )
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Years ago I won a session on a Police Skid pan in one of their properly equipped cars with police instructor - if you ever get the opportunity then do it!
The intructor demonstrated J turns etc., and never hit me once when I crossed my arms !

I really meant to highlight that the police car on the skid pan had the facility to switch of all driver aids - traction control and ABS. We rely on them now - more than we admit !

I went on a skid pan in my Mazda rx8, we were told to gun it from one end to the other & the cars gently fishtailed along with no drama.
Then we were asked to disable all the electronic nannies & do the same thing again, nobody made it to the other end! :o

I don’t think sport + turns off all the aids and none completely. I think it allows a controllable amount of wheel spin and lateral movement before it all kicks in again. I don’t think sport has much value but the comfort and sport plus modes give a Jeckle and Hyde experience.

If you switch to SPORT+ mode and then press and hold the traction control OFF button, this totally deactivates the traction control doesn't it?

In sport+ mode on the ZF 8 speed auto by default you have dynamic stability control off but traction control on...pressing the traction control AFAIK in that mode does nothing...the use of the traction control is normally used in isolation for control on snow/dirt etc or drifting...

It disables dynamic stability control as the two concepts are mutually exclusively...

It seems that the electronics are always present in some form either stability control or traction control...

I think if hey didn’t too many Americans would kill themselves and sue BMW...

I’ll try is this weekend..

I use Sport if I’m driving quickly but not like a complete idiot as I hate the traction light on the dash. If I want to have some fun and let the rear end get loose then I’ll put up with the light on the dash in sports + mode.

I find it annoying that if you disable traction completely you lose the Sports throttle settings and steering.

I never knew that..you mean if you turn it off via the TC switch and not via Sport + ?
