My New Z4 questions

Picked up my Z4 25SI the weekend, absolutely love it but a couple of questions come to mind.

The dealer has put a couple of CHEAP Jinyu YU63 tyres on the back which seemed ok on the drive back Sat but took it out in the rain and slippy roads Sunday and they were awful (Jinju on the back, Potenza on the front)

So first question is WHAT tyres to fit, I havent got the space to store Winter/Summer wheels so looking for a good quality tyre which is fit for all year round use (225s)

Secondly, the car does seem slower than the 6.6 to 60 suggests (is fun to have to rev it mind you as it sounds great) so it could be just me being use to riding a Ducati, so thinking of giving it a Stage 1 chip, has anyone done this? and if so whats the improvement and does it have a detrimental effect on the engine, I am going to keep this one for a couple of years (due to zero no claims bonus having had a company car all my life) then upgrade to a 3.0 when insurance company will let me!!

Best bet is to ditch all 4 tyres and fit something half decent and non runflat. The tyres on the front will be runflats and they are not the best.
Not sure on the wheel sizes but check they are not meant to be staggered setup with a wider 255 on the rear instead of 225 all round.
We had Good Year Eagles for a few years and had no problems, now have Michelin PSS and they are noticeably grippier.
The speed is something you will have to live with as you will never experience the same as on your bike. Get the roof down and enjoy it.

Hello I think your car is a 23i not 25?

If so then tuning options are very limited / not very cost effective compared to almost all the other E89s, especially the turbo charged variants.

However, IMHO, it seems the speed these babies go around the countryside on our runs seems to be 85% driver and 15% car...

Yep you are right 23si. Get confused as it’s a 2500cc engine, why call it 23si doh!!

I agree with Nic, you cant compare with a bike, I commute and track my17 Fireblade, not many cars can get anywhere near it 0-60 or 0-100 but my Z4 35i DCT does feel pretty quick

I'm not comparing with my Ducati, been biking for 35 years so I know there is no comparison

I normally drive a passat 2.0 diesel repmobile which being a diesel has bags of torgue where as the Z4 does like to be revved (not a bad thing

, just doesn't seem that much quicker in comparison, not that I'm complaining as the Z4 is so much a nicer place to be after doing hundreds of miles a week in the plodder

I have a 220BHP (re-map to 260BHP) XC70 D5 Auto and it overtakes much more impressively than my 186BHP Z4 as stock, now with 280 BHP via a re-map the Z4 beats it but it does need to be revved surprisingly hard to beat the Volvo..never thought I would be saying that...

Ive been thinking of remapping the 23 but would like to hear from other 23 owners that might of done theirs, otherwise I'll give it a year to get some more no claims (fair play the insurance co gave me two years based on my 15 years bike no claims) then upgrade to a 3.0

I mean no disrespect by this at all but I wouldn’t bother modifying the 23i engine. The “bang for buck” is never going to be good unfortunately.

I’d spend the money on tyres and changing anything else that may of been scrimped on (make sure it’s had a full service etc) and then just enjoy it for what it is.
