What year E89

Post by Chris22091966 » Mon Aug 13, 2018 7:56 pm

Hi folks, I’m looking at second hand e89 and wondering what year. Ideally I’d love iDrive and satnav but I don’t normally use those sorts of functions - as long as i have DAB radio I’d be happy. So go for a less well specc’ed and low mileage 2014 model or pay quite a bit more for more miles, not too more admittedly, and the bells and whistles 2015/2016. My main deciding factor would be the model and the 2014 28i is the cheaper? Presumably I could get satnav installed?

I’ve looked at autotrader but has anyone recent experience of trading in a low mileage E85 - 07 plate - 38k mileage.

Hi, I’d forget about getting the factory nav installed-I think it’s been done before but the cost was ridiculous.
I got offered £3,700 trade in for my 3.0si a couple of years ago against an e89, I sold it on here for £5k & we were both happy

Agree with Smartbear. don't think about getting satnav installed, and go for as many factory fitted options as you think you need. I've added cruise and sports/heated/memory seats to mine but unless you do it yourself it can be very expensive. no DAB in my 2009 2.5iDrive...good luck with the search!

I wouldn’t want to be trying to sell a poorly spec’d e89 unless you go it for an utter bargain in the first place.

Retro fitting some things fine but I drive etc, no way!

Are you looking for a 2.0 turbo?

There are lots of well specced car out there for similar money to lesser spec. Retro fitting is usually expensive and time consuming. Buy a car with what is important to you already fitted.

IMHO focus on a 20i or 28i...if the price premium for the 28i over the 20i is more than £800 ish then buy the 20i and get it remapped..

Not a lot really changed over the years of the E89, technically there was an LCI in 2013 but it didn't do much. Only worthwhile change is the flappy paddles being fixed.

I'd prioritise engine, spec & condition over age & mileage.
Pure Traction 35iS - Sold!
Carbon Black E86 3.0si Coupe - Gone but not forgotten
