Oil usage (What do you guys get)
Hi all,
Just a question for myself to clear my conscious as well as understand the car's a tad bit more. In short, I change my oil roughly every 10k miles. I do roughly 100 miles a day so it's pretty quick, anyways I did an oil change at 62k miles, and now its coming time to do an oil change almost 72k. I checked my oil level intermittently, so roughly every three months or so, I checked it today and it showed that my oil level was like say 1/4 away from the full level bar. Is this normal, I have started to drive my car pretty hard recently not all the time but on occasions, I'm usually easy with the throttle but recently I've been driving it in sports mode say once a week.
Any feedback on how often yours last if it burns oil all the jazz would be a good help. Im to get the oil changed and a basic service come next month so yeah i think im okay for now fingers crossed.

Loads of things can change how much oil is indicated, unless you do the check in the exact same location at the same temperature after the engine has been shut down for the same amount of time.. things can look different even when they are not

I'd say that was pretty low oil usage - but you might get more useful feedback if you say what engine your car has.
My E86 likes a top-up now and again! It's got the N52 engine, so the same as 23i and 30i E89s.

Adil, if you're changing the oil every 10k miles and you're not getting the 'Add Oil' warning bong before you do, you're not burning too much oil. Simples.

My daily drive is two 7 mile journeys, so the car barely warms up.
My 23i uses 1 litre Mobil 1 in 10k miles. Car now at 78k. I change every 10k, but still top up when it reaches half on the dipstick.
I notice these cars seem to have a lot of black soot on the exhaust pipe.

Hmmm I dont feel too bad now, I warmed up to temp and showing the same reading, so atleast im not burning alot of oil. I do roughly 100 miles a day and clock out 10k in a matter of months. So im just trying to keep up maintenance as well as keep the car is spectacular condition!flybobbie wrote: ↑Sun Aug 12, 2018 7:46 am My daily drive is two 7 mile journeys, so the car barely warms up.

In my 35is from new to 7000 miles I’ve used - 1 litre
Careful use to the 1200 miles. Then only ever driven if it was going be brought to temperature.
Cosseted!

My 35iS has done 9.5k miles from new and hasn’t used a drop, if the oil level indicator is to be believed! I do wish the engine had a physical dipstick though - much more reassuring

Yes, no use to 5000 miles for first service and still nothing since.

That’s the point - mine at almost 7k showed no useage then suddenly I got the warning that it needed 1lt - At 5k you were well inside this 7k so you might have used oil but not indicated.
1 lt and no interim warning I think is poor .
Never mind it gets its first service next month and I’m sure it will use less as it beds in but as it approaches 7k again I will start to worry.
I have a 5yr service plan that boasts any interim oil top ups - I don’t know how they do that?

My 35i is just shy of 70k and so far has not needed a top up between services. I have noticed it's very occasionally started to throw out a bit of smoke on start-up so I'll be keeping an eye on that
I used to own a Boxster and they are notorious oil burners especially if you park on a hill... lovely plumes of white vapoury oily smoke would sometimes cover the neighbours car in the morning
